5th Annual 5K Destination…Independence Walk

A big thanks to all who participated in our 5th annual Destination…Independence 5K Walk to support our programs for blind, visually impaired and deaf/blind children. We thank all our corporate sponsors (click here for sponsor list), volunteers, donors, and of course everyone who walked.

A special thanks to Jaimie Haver who once again was the chair of the event. We would also like to thank The Bradley’s, our ambassador family, The Blatchford’s who helped MC the morning program, alumni Jack Haver who led the Pledge of Allegiance, and alumni Andrew Skvarla who played the national anthem on his trumpet.

This year’s walk was dedicated to the memory of Taylor Medwig. We would like to thank the Medwig family for all the support and for making a brave speech to Walk participants letting everyone know what the Center meant for their family.

Families, friends and donors walked the family friendly 5K Walk; some of the children walked the entire route; others were pushed in wheel chairs or pulled in wagons. All the children received a ‘gold medal’ as they crossed the finish line. The fun continued at the family picnic where everyone ate hot dogs as the children had fun in the bounce house, played games and had their hair and faces painted.
