Counseling

"Wonderful things happen in the Tree Room at BCLC," says Karin Crilly, MFT and Supervising Counselor for BCLC. Recognizing that children utilize play for limited or non-existent language, the Counseling Department has created a safe and comfortable space known as the Tree Room. Here in this creative environment, children work through some of their frustrations. The Counseling Department specializes in Play Therapy. There are three basic purposes to Play Therapy:

  • Cognitive Development
  • Motor Development
  • Emotional Resolutions

Like regular play, Play Therapy provides children with the opportunity to rehearse for interactions in life. Play Therapy and the opportunities for expression enhance a child’s learning opportunities and can lead to improved behavior.

Counseling is continually available to blind and visually impaired children and their families at the Blind Children’s Learning Center.

Testimonial

In a typical pre-school setting, the children stared and stared at my daughter's eye patch.  It made her so uncomfortable – at two years old!!  At BCLC, there was a little girl in her class with an eye patch, and so my daughter felt right at home.  Her vision has become much stronger. This was a gift from BCLC.  Mom - Trish Sullivan
