5K Destination.Independence Walk Brings Out Families and FriendsĀ
June 7th turned out to be a wonderful day for our annual 5K Walk. We had the biggest turnout ever with over 300 people attending raising over $55,000 for the kids. What an exciting event!
We appreciate all the support from our families and community who made our 4th Annual Walk so successful. A special thanks to our presenting sponsor, LNR Property Corporation and to all our sponsors (click here to view).
Our keynote speaker was Alexandra Fletcher,20, an alumnae who now attends college. Alex used her BrailleNote as she spoke about her experiences and goals. Former students Sam, Rory and Ben Blatchford sang during the pre-Walk activities and Andrew Skvarla played “God Bless America” on his trombone. Our children also sang some of their favorite songs.
Once again Jaimie Haver did a great job as chair of the event. We appreciate all the volunteers who helped with registration, the after-walk activities and manned the rest stops.
As the walkers finished the walk they were welcomed back with cheers, all the children received a medal for their efforts. The after-walk party included hot dogs cooked by Brent Bradley and fun activities for all the children.
We appreciate everyone who walked, volunteered, raised money, gave in-kind gifts and cheered us on…you made this a truly wonderful event.
