If you don't like hearing about blind children, just close your
eyes.
Every day in Southern California, many children are born blind.
So how come the rest of us never see them? Simple. The Visually
impaired child is usually thrust aside. Forced to become dependent.
But this outcome is far from a given. The Blind Children's Learning
Center proves there's hope. But it takes a holistic approach that
draws these children into the mainstream of life and keeps them
there. So we reach out into the home to teach new parents the unique
needs of their blind baby. And run the only preschool in Orange
County where visually impaired children learn alongside sighted
kids. And provide the outreach needed to ensure these children's
success in public schools. The mission is clear. A blind child -
like any child - can become an independent adult. It just takes
the right support. Like ours. And yours. Won't you see to it?

So far, she doesn't think blindness is a handicap. We intend to
keep it that way.
Most development between birth and age two is visually cued - even
the way a baby bonds with her parents. So when a child is born who
cannot see, she suddenly enters a race against time. Unless she
quickly learns a different kind of vision, she'll soon lose her
way in the world. This is why the Blind Children's Learning Center
goes into the home to help parents of blind infants. There, we teach
them how to teach their newborn to "see", learn and love
with their other senses. Often the process starts in the hospital,
since many blind children are born prematurely. And timely intervention
may be the most vital factor in the baby's chance for a happy, independent
life. Help a blind child win this race by investing in her success.
It's the best way to make sure she never learns to be handicapped.
