Programs and Services:
Youth Outreach
The Youth Outreach program provides services to blind and visually impaired students in the public school system when school districts are unable to provide these services. Our services are provided by credentialed teachers in the areas of Braille instruction, low vision services and Orientation and Mobility (i.e.: cane travel, safety).
Our credentialed teachers work with visually impaired and blind students providing vision assessments, participation in students Individual Educational Plan (IEP), direct service instruction including Braille and computer skills, adapting materials, ordering large print, Braille materials, books on tape and CD's and assistive devices such as an abacus and closed circuit television. The services our teachers provide are based upon the student's IEP goals and objectives.
The Youth Outreach Department also "reaches out" to blind and visually impaired youth by offering programs to increase skills in the areas of daily living, socialization and academics. We offer a mentoring, daily living skills, peer buddy and tutoring program to area teens who are blind and visually impaired on a weekly or monthly basis depending on the program.
