Team Taylor Medwig walks in memory of Taylor, a precious little girl who, in her short life, touched the lives of hundreds of people. Taylor was born with West Syndrome, a seizure disorder that robbed her of her ability to walk, talk, and see. Taylor's parents, Heather and Terry, sought support from various organizations, and although they reside near Blind Children's Learning Center, they did not know it existed until they saw an ad promoting the first Destination-Independence 5K Walk. They decided to bring their young family to the event and their lives were changed.

Taylor and the Destination-Independence Walk were born the same year - 2004. Heather feels Taylor and the Walk grew up together. If Taylor were alive, she would be turning 13 this year. Every year, Heather and Terry rally a team of family, friends, and individuals (some who may have never met Taylor) to walk and raise funds for the place they feel had the strongest connection to her life.

Pediatric Ophthalmologist Dr. Mehta is Honorary Co-Chair of this year's Destination Independence 5K Walk. He would like everyone to know that "Blind Children's Learning Center does everything that medicine cannot."

If you haven't already, register now to walk with him and Dr. Ehsan Sadri!

"We walk to remember the child that taught us the grace and beauty of life and to support the amazing school that held our Taylor so gently in its arms." - Heather, Taylor's mother.

The Annual Destination-Independence 5K Walk is the biggest event to support Blind Children's Learning Center! This year, we are also celebrating the Center's 55th Anniversary.

We walk because 55 years from now,

what we did for these children today matters.

We walk because with the right foundation,

children with visual impairments can accomplish anything.

Independence starts one step at a time.

Walk with us on May 13, 2017!
