ORIENTATION &
MOBILITY

TEACHES SAFE AND INDEPENDENT NAVIGATION TECHNIQUES
How does a child who is blind or visually impaired learn to move about and travel safely and independently in this world?
Providing Orientation & Mobility training as early as possible produces a positive outcome for critical areas of self-sufficiency.

____________
Children ages three to eighteen are paired with a licensed Orientation & Mobility Specialist to learn how to strategically assess their environment using senses other than sight. Adventures through local neighborhoods and a special Mobility Training Center teach children with visual impairments how to confidently navigate a world full of variety and change.

Some of the skills children master through O&M include:
  • Navigating both familiar and unfamiliar environments such as an office building or public sidewalks
  • Interacting with peers on the playground
  • Accessing items around the house
