LEGACY OF INDEPENDENCE SOCIETY

A legacy built on a child's potential is limitless.

You can create a legacy tomorrow without
giving up assets today. Members of the Legacy
of Independence Society have chosen to
support Blind Children’s Learning Center and
enjoy tax benefits through planned charitable
giving such as bequests, trusts, and commercial
annuities.

Investing in Jack's future pays off.
The next generation of children with visual impairments need you.
____________
In 1962, the five blind individuals who founded Blind Children’s Learning Center knew that blind and visually impaired individuals were in critical need of services to promote independence. What they could not have known is that more than 55 years later, Blind Children’s Learning Center would become a leading accredited organization for children with visual impairments in the Orange County community.

Blind Children’s Learning Center now serves over 250 children annually by providing specialized services and adaptive skills from birth through early adulthood. Comprehensive services help babies and young children overcome the daunting reality that over 80% of early learning is driven by vision. Parents learn how vision loss can affect healthy development and how to help their children learn, grow and gain independence.

Equally important is follow-through during school age years, which is why students receive educational support and mobility training to reach their full potential by young adulthood. Today and tomorrow, giving blind and visually impaired children the tools to live full and dignified lives is only possible with the support of our community.

Consider designating Blind Children’s Learning Center as a beneficiary of your will, retirement plan assets, insurance policies, or commercial annuities. The lasting benefit will mean that babies being served today can grow up to reach their fullest potentials.
Investing in Jack Early in Life Pays Off as He Graduates High School.
____________
Jaimie and Darren, Jack's parents, were numb after watching their premature newborn struggle to stay alive when they learned their three-month-old was visually impaired. This didn’t strike Mom and Dad as a real challenge until he missed key milestones. His future was at stake, and that’s when Blind Children’s Learning Center got to work.

Jack is now ready to graduate high school and begin college courses in the fall. This road to success was paved with home-based early intervention, therapy services, and adaptive educational instruction in an inclusive environment. As a teenager, he even demonstrated early leadership skills by volunteering as a mentor to younger students who are blind and visually impaired.

Jack’s parents now havea passion for helping all children with visual impairments receiving a solid foundation for independence. In 2005, Jaimie co-founded the Destination Independence 5K Walk, which has raised an incredible $1.4M over fifteen years. During that time, kids like Jack have gone from early childhood to early adulthood. Stable, long term support means children and families can look to a better future thanks to programs that promote self-sufficiency among children with visual impairments.

Creating a lasting legacy at Blind Children's Learning Center may be easier than you think.
____________
Everyone’s goals are unique. Thankfully, there are many ways to make a long term difference at Blind Children’s Learning Center. Some may provide you a valuable tax advantage. You should consult with your accountant or wealth advisor to determine a plan that is right for you. Here are just some examples:
REMEMBER US IN YOUR WILL

Including BCLC in your will is one of the simplest ways to leave a lasting legacy. Your loved ones and favorite charitable causes will thank you for many years to come. Even a small percentage of your estate can change lives.

Sample Bequest of Remainder of Estate:

"I give, devise, and bequeath to the Blind Children's Learning Center of Orange County TAX I.D. #95-6097023, all [or state the fraction or percentage] of the rest, residue, and remainder of my estate, both real and personal. Blind Children's Learning Center may be contacted at 18542-B Vanderlip Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705, 714-573-8888.

Sample Bequest of Specific Amount:

"I give, devise, and bequeath $_____ to Blind Children's Learning Center of Orange County TAX I.D. #95-6097023. Blind Children's Learning Center may be contacted at 18542-B Vanderlip Ave, Santa Ana, CA 92705, 714-573-8888.

IRA ROLLOVER GIFT

If you are 70½ or older, you can lower your taxable income by making charitable gifts from your IRA to meet your minimum distribution and avoid paying federal income tax on the amount given to BCLC.
CHARITABLE GIFT ANNUITY

With a Charitable Gift Annuity, you exchange a low-yielding asset for a fixed stream of income and receive a current income tax deduction. At the end of your life, remaining assets create a long term legacy at BCLC.
CHARITABLE REMAINDER TRUST

Consider this if reducing your tax burden and meeting the needs of your and your beneficiaries today is a top priority. This tax-exempt irrevocable trust allows you to transfer appreciated assets to the trust, which is then sold, paying no capital gains tax. The reinvested assets produce predictable income over a set term, after which BCLC will receive remaining assets.
