GLOBAL INFANT
DEVELOPMENT

PROVIDES ESSENTIAL EARLY INTERVENTION FROM BIRTH TO AGE 3
Early intervention gives children with visual impairments the early intervention they need to overcome early obstacles caused by visual impairments.
80% of what a child learns from their environment comes from vision. Early intervention is crucial to help children overcome obstacles and delays caused by a visual impairment. Global Infant Development provides critical early intervention services for infants and toddlers with visual impairments.

____________
Infant Development Specialists make weekly home visits to provide vision stimulation, parent education, and support to children with visual impairments and their families. Parents learn how vision loss can affect healthy development and how to help their children learn, grow and gain independence.

Early intervention for infants and families in their home environment is critical to immediately address developmental delays in children with a visual impairment. To enhance coping skills and address possible issues with grief, parents are offered Counseling through a Marriage and Family Therapist and interns from Blind Children’s Learning Center.

Physical and occupational therapists and a speech pathologist are available to work with these small children to address further developmental delays that will inhibit their learning and independence.

140 BABIES RECEIVED EARLY INTERVENTION SERVICES IN THEIR HOME ENVIRONMENT LAST YEAR
Early intervention helps 8 out of 10 children make significant developmental gains in order to learn and grow alongside typical children their age (Report on the Conditions of Children in OC, 2012).
"When the doctor shined a light in her eyes, there was no reaction. BCLC presented objects in a way she could process. She lit up and became motivated. I cried with joy. She has grown so much since. Without early intervention, I'm certain Katie wouldn't be where she is now." - Grace, mother of Katie, age 4
Early intervention helped Cruz gain a sense of himself and his environment through tactile stimuli, sounds, and smells. Cruz now enjoys social outings more than ever.
This lightroom is soothing for a baby who is visually impaired and makes them more comfortable interacting with new sensory sensations.
