Our Campus
The Blind Children’s Learning Center is located in the north Tustin area in Orange County, California. Our Administrative Offices and Early Childhood Center are located on three lovely, tree shaded acres we share with our landlord, a small church.
Our classrooms are designed to reflect the ever-changing needs of visually impaired children. Each class encourages exploration through play to make learning as fun as possible.
Our Early Childhood Center includes six classrooms for infants and children that are 6 months to 6 years of age. The infant/toddler classrooms share a wonderful play area designed just for them. The yard was a combined community project built and maintained by volunteers.*
The “older” kids, 3 to 6 years of age, have a larger play area / park where they can learn about their world through play and exploration.
The Children’s Classrooms are rich in sensory opportunities. Technology is introduced early in their development. Children can learn at computers with adaptive equipment that ‘talks’ to them.
The Multi-media Library provides a quiet place for the children to explore tactile, large print and Braille books. Parents, teachers, students and other professionals in the field of visual impairment have access to resources in the BCLC library.
The Counseling Office is on-site and is a special place for the children to meet one-on-one with the school counselor and receive help through play therapy.
The Occupational Therapy clinics provide an environment for the finest sensory integration for blind and visually impaired children.
The staff from the BCLC Infant Family Focus and Youth Outreach programs, who provide services in the community, have their offices off-campus.
*The Volunteer Center of Orange County was instrumental in the coordination of this project, bringing together volunteers from corporate sponsors from the Orange County Corporate Combined Volunteer Project. Over 200 volunteers came from Disneyland, Fluor, Hunt Wesson, Ingram Micro, PacifiCare, Pacific Life, Rockwell, St. Joseph’s Health Systems and UPS. (Partial List Only). Over the years much of the equipment both outside and inside our classrooms has been designed and built by students from the Industrial Design Art Class at Orange Coast College in Costa Mesa.
