Speech Therapy

The BCLC Speech and Language department provides individual speech and language services to blind, partially sighted, and dual-sensory (blind/deaf) children between the ages of 6 months to 6 years old.

Developing Speech and Language Skills is a major developmental milestone for all children. Sight plays an important role in speech development for typical children; they see something and parents identify it. This process begins very early, much earlier than when a child actually begins to speak. So it’s not surprising that blind, visually impaired and especially deaf/blind children are at risk for speech delays.

It is our commitment to provide speech and language therapy to each BCLC student with the skills they need to communicate and become independent, self-confident children.

Testimonial

In a typical pre-school setting, the children stared and stared at my daughter's eye patch.  It made her so uncomfortable – at two years old!!  At the Center, there was a little girl in her class with an eye patch, and so my daughter felt right at home.  Her vision has become much stronger. This was a gift from Blind Children's Learning Center.  Mom - Trisha Sullivan
