Volunteer Center

The Volunteer Center at BCLC sits at the heart of the Center.  Why is it at the heart of the center?  Because volunteers are critical to the success of our students.
Volunteers come from all walks of life: retirees, college and high school students, parents of our students and professionals who want to donate their expertise.  They range in age from 14 – 40.  Despite differences in ages and backgrounds, all volunteers share a vision: to help our children grow, learn and thrive.  The Volunteer Center also recruits interns who are receiving their degrees in Child and Adolescent Studies, Counseling, Health Sciences and/or Public Relations.
Volunteers participate in many different activities.

A small sample includes:

  • Preparing classroom activities
  • Assisting with feeding at mealtimes
  • Providing verbal prompts and/or physical assistance
  • Reading stories
  • Playing with children and helping with arts and crafts
  • Supporting all-school celebrations such as Graduation and Back-to-School Night

Volunteers tell us that working with our children truly changes their lives because the children touch their hearts.  Please join us at the heart of the center.

Testimonial

In a typical pre-school setting, the children stared and stared at her eye patch.  It made her so uncomfortable – at two years old!!  At BCLC, there was a little girl in her class with an eye patch, and so my daughter felt right at home.  Her vision has become much stronger. This was a gift from BCLC.  Mom - Trish Sullivan
